I am Callahan Reed. I currently am a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I was born and raised in Huntersville, North Carolina where I attended Lake Norman Charter high school. I played basketball during high school and committed to Tusculum University to continue my basketball career. I have always been around the game of basketball since I was little and plan on staying around it until I can't anymore. I am currently not playing competitively anymore, but I am beginning my first season as a coach at Triangle Day School.
I am currently working with the UNC Sports Communication team. In the past, I have worked for the Charlotte Hornets as a quote runner where I was able to interview NBA players and coaches and transcribe their quotes, so writers can use them in their story. This has given me the chance to meet and interact with players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Chris Paul, and Anthony Davis have had the blessing of being able to work college games and witness the enjoyment of sports first hand on the sidelines. It has been an honor and I have really enjoyed being able to be a part of a team that delivers news to people across the world.
I believe that not everyone understands the mental stress, anxiety, and pain that athletes go through when the game they love is taken away from them sue to an injury. I focused on describing the process of rehabbing, the mental struggle, and what it takes to achieve the glory after returning. I hope this story impacts those who feel as though their career is over after an unfortunate injury. My wish is that people feel empowered by Aldi's story of perseverance, determination, and pure love for the game.
